A message from the MLTAWA President

Dear MLTAWA Members,

As we bid farewell to the echoes of the past and step into the crisp embrace of the future, it is with great pleasure that I welcome each and every one of you to a brand new year. The start of a new year is not just a turning of the calendar; it's an opportunity for fresh beginnings, renewed energy, and a collective commitment to growth and excellence.

As members of the Modern Language Teachers' Association of Western Australia, we stand united in our dedication to fostering Language Education, cultural understanding, and the continuous enhancement of our teaching practices. The dawn of this new year brings with it a sense of optimism and the promise of exciting developments on the horizon.

Reflecting on the challenges and triumphs of the past year, it becomes evident that our strength lies in our community. The MLTAWA community is a vibrant tapestry of educators, each weaving their unique threads into the fabric of language education. Together, we have navigated uncharted territories, adapted to new technologies, and demonstrated resilience in the face of adversity. As we embark on this new journey, let us carry forward the lessons learned and the bonds strengthened, fortifying our commitment to excellence in language teaching.

In the coming year, the MLTAWA committee has curated an exciting lineup of events and our biennial conference designed to inspire and elevate your teaching experience. From professional development opportunities to collaborative initiatives, we aim to create a dynamic space where ideas flourish, and the seeds of innovation take root.

As we stand at the threshold of this new year, let us embrace the opportunities it brings with open hearts and minds. Together, let's explore, learn, and grow, nurturing an environment where language education thrives, and cultural understanding blossoms.

Thank you for being an integral part of the MLTAWA community. Here's to a year of empowerment, enrichment, and endless possibilities!

Warm regards,

Colleen Barclay
President MLTAWA

Share some joy on World Happiness Day/French Language Day

Schools are advised that the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (the Authority) is offering both learning area specific and generic administrators Meeting WACE Requirements seminars from February 2024.

Meeting WACE Requirements seminars are designed for teachers in:

schools that are offering a course for the first time in 2024
schools that are reintroducing a course for the first time since 2016
teachers delivering one or more WACE courses for the first time in 2024 (e.g. graduate teachers, teachers who have not previously taught Year 11 or Year 12, teachers whose experience has been interstate or overseas)
new school leaders (for example, Heads of Learning Area) and those leaders who would benefit from being made aware of the Authority’s current requirements for delivering senior secondary courses.
The purpose of these seminars is to provide teachers with information on the Authority’s assessment and moderation requirements that teachers need to follow when delivering senior secondary courses.

An online learning area seminar will be conducted for teachers in regional, remote, or international schools.
