As we enter the final stretch of 2024, I want to express my deep gratitude to each of you for your continued dedication to advancing Languages Education in Western Australia. This year has been filled with inspiring moments of learning, collaboration, and celebration. With exciting events like the Side-by-Side Competition and the upcoming AGM, we continue to strengthen our vibrant community. I look forward to seeing many of you at our upcoming events and to what we can achieve together as we finish the year with impact.

Side-by-Side Competition
|
The Side-by-Side Competition has been a tremendous success this year, receiving numerous high-quality entries! We are thrilled to see so many students across the state embracing Languages learning and culture. A big thank you to all the teachers and students who submitted their fantastic work. The live event for the competition will take place this Thursday at Willetton SHS, showcasing the winning entries. We look forward to celebrating these talented students and their passion for languages.

ATAR Languages Professional Learning
|
|
|
We are just a few weeks away from the much-anticipated "How to Teach ATAR Languages Effectively" workshop! If you haven't registered yet, now is the time to secure your spot for this invaluable professional development opportunity.

This workshop is ideal for language teachers looking to refine their approach to ATAR courses. The session will cover essential topics such as:

- ATAR Requirements, featuring a presentation by SCSA
This is a great opportunity to learn from experienced ATAR teachers, enhance your teaching methods, and engage in discussions with fellow educators.

To ensure all our regional members can participate, the PL will be available via Zoom, offering an accessible platform for those unable to attend in person.

Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Celebration Event
|
Our Annual General Meeting (AGM) is fast approaching! Please mark your calendars for Saturday, November 23, at the UWA Club, 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM. The morning will begin with a delicious breakfast followed by the AGM and awards. This is a key opportunity to hear about MLTAWA's work throughout the year and share your ideas for the future. We are actively seeking new committee members to join us in 2025. If you are passionate about Languages Education and would like to contribute, we encourage you to nominate yourself or a colleague.

Nathan Harvey Languages Education Scholarship
We are excited to announce that the inaugural Nathan Harvey Languages Education Scholarship has received an overwhelming number of applications. This prestigious award, which supports a dedicated student in pursuing their passion for languages, will be presented at the AGM. Thank you to all who supported their students to apply!

Reminder: Call for Nominations – Hilde Dixon Award
|
Don't forget to submit your nominations for the Hilde Dixon Award, recognising excellence in Languages teaching across Western Australia. If you know a dedicated colleague who has made a significant impact in the field, this is your chance to honour their contributions.
|
The award will be presented at our AGM on November 23, so make sure to get your nominations in soon!

Reminder: Languagenut Event
|
|
|
Join us for the Languagenut Event on Thursday, 7th November at 4pm at Mount Lawley High School. Languagenut will be showcasing their Primary, Secondary, and EALD resources, offering valuable insights for both new and existing users.
|
For schools that do not currently subscribe, Languagenut is providing free access to their resources from now until 15th February 2025. If you’re interested in attending or accessing the free resources, please email [email protected].
|
Existing customers are also encouraged to attend, with the opportunity to meet the authors, ask questions, and discuss any product improvements you’d like to see. We hope to see you there!
