World Greek Language Day celebration invite

I have the pleasure of extending an invitation to you on behalf of Mr George Georgiou from the Hellenic Australian Lawyers Association, and in conjunction with the Consulate of Greece in Perth for the inaugural event to honour World Greek Language Day on Monday 9 February (details in the attached invitation).

Attendance at the event is free, however, an RSVP is essential (email address also included in the attached invitation).

World Greek Language Day (also known as International Greek Language Day) has been held since 2017.  The date of 9 February was chosen to coincide with the annual commemoration of Greece’s national poet, Dionysios Solomos (April 8, 1798 – February 9, 1857), whose lyrics are featured in the Greek National Anthem.  The annual event aims to promote awareness of the Greek language’s unparalleled influence on other writing systems around the world and on the impact it has had on various disciplines/fields of study, such as medicine, mathematics, and philosophy.

In 2026, UNESCO has declared the Greek language as a world heritage language so this year’s special event will be even more meaningful.  A special program is being prepared to appropriately honour the contribution of the Greek language to Western culture.
