Japan Foundation July Intensive Seminar

July 9-10, 2026 (Thu-Fri)
VENUE:
The Japan Foundation, Sydney (face-to-face only)
(Level 4, Central Park, 28 Broadway, Chippendale, NSW, 2008)
ELIGIBILITY:
Teachers must:
- be an Australian teacher of Years 5-9 (teachers of Y10 may apply) or a New Zealand teacher of Years 6-10.
- be currently teaching Japanese a minimum of 3 hours per week (if you are on leave etc. and not currently teaching but would like to participate, please consult with us beforehand).
- not be a native or near-native Japanese.
- be able to read Hiragana and Katakana without any difficulty.
- be at least JLPT N5 level of Japanese language proficiency.
Pre-Service Teachers must:
- be in the final year of their teaching course in university towards being a Japanese teacher of Years 5-9 in Australia or have graduated from a teaching course of Y5-6 and/or Y7-9 within the past two years and be actively seeking teaching work.
- not be a native or near-native Japanese speaker.
- be able to read Hiragana and Katakana without any difficulty.
- be at least JLPT N5 level of Japanese language proficiency.
FEES:
- There will be NO participation fee.
- All travel costs (e.g. flights, accommodation and transport) will be the responsibility of the participants.
TRAVEL GRANTS:
The Macquarie Japanese Studies Centre (MJS Centre) at Macquarie University, Monash Japanese Language Education Hub (MJLEH) at Monash University, and The Queensland Centre for Japanese Language and Studies (QCJLS) have travel grants that attendees of this seminar may be eligible for.
CERTIFICATES:
Attendance certificate (11 hours) will be issued.
