Raising Children in More Than One Language

As part of OMI’s Community Languages Program a free session has been arranged for parents on raising children multi-lingual and is open to all parents.

Prof John Hajek from the University of Melbourne will be speaking about how to raise children with more than one language.  His discussion will include positive strategies to support language development, how to recognise a child’s language needs and how to foster their child’s language learning and maximise the advantage for their child.

Prof John Hajek is Professor of Italian and a linguist in the School of Languages and Linguistics at the University of Melbourne. He has held research fellowships in the UK and Australia. He is currently director of the Research Unit for Multilingualism and Cross-cultural Communication and the Languages and Cultures Network for Australian Universities.  Prof Hajek was awarded his Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Oxford in 1992 and his Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from the University of Melbourne in 1983.
